At first I was skeptical about how well the cloth and soap nuts would work but have now found that they both easily fit into my cleaning and laundry routine. It is worthwhile using products that are healthier to use, economical, and save me time.

Comparing Soap Nuts
Quality and Prices

Because Earth Care Market sells soap nuts I decided to check out my on-line competition and found out that it is a very confusing product to buy. This is because there are no standards for packaging or shipping. Differences found in weight and measurement, either ounce or gram, make it hard for figure out who has the best prices. Sometimes shipping is included and sometimes it is hard to even know how much your shipping costs will be.

Soap Nuts

Also, the amount of soap nuts needed per load and how many loads per package differ greatly. Some discrepancy is normal due to differences in load size, water hardness, and how soiled the clothes are. My experience is based on using my Soap-it Nuts in lukewarm water, in extra large loads, with very hard water, and usually very dirty clothes. My family gets their clothes dirty from construction, gardening, and exercising. I use 3 nuts for three loads. For whites I add anon-chlorine bleach and for ground-in dirt I add some washing soda. Both of these products are safe and non-toxic.

Also, some companies promote having fresher soap nuts that work better. This is a subjective claim and should be balanced by the fact that fresher nuts weigh more so you don’t get as many. Right now my soap nuts are darker and drier but they weigh less so you get more! So it’s a “wash” (ha, ha). Mine work just as well as the fresher nuts. The pieces work as well as the whole nuts or can be boiled for liquid detergent.

I have been washing my dishes with soap nut liquid for months now and love it. It cuts through grease and doesn’t dry out my hands. It also makes me feel like I am doing something positive for our environment and reducing my carbon footprint!
